Interpretation - Superman tonight

'Superman tonight' is the fourth song on Bon Jovi's album 'The Circle' released in 2009. It's one of those typical ballads about a narator wishing to be the superman who saves someone else. But it's not just that simple! This song also contains questions which make us think about our own lives: 'Who's going to save you when the stars fall from your sky? And who's going to pull you in when the tide gets too high? Who's going to hold you when you turn out the lights?'. Everybody wants to have someone in his life who cares about them, who listens to them and who is always there to help them.

Moreover, the song contains some lines that were obviously written by Jon because he refers to himself: ' You're looking for a hero, but it's just my old tattoo'. We don't know what he wanted to tell us with this line, but maybe he makes fun of himself because he got the superman-logo-tattoo in 1987 when at 'Slippery' - tour he felt like superman because he was the frontman of worlds biggest rock band. He also got a construction with which he flew over the crowds at the concerts, another reason to feel like superman.

Many fans adapted the comparison and speak about Jon as their superman. Whatever it is, maybe Jon wanted to sy that he's a normal human being like the rest of us even when he's got the logo on his arm.
