The title track from Bon Jovi's 2005 album 'Have a nice day' (by fans just called Hand) is a really ironic song. The whole album is more about things outside the band than about personal problems or similar things like it is on other albums like 'Lost Highway' or 'This house is not for sale'.
Jon always supported the Democrats in America (really active with concerts or other appearances) and was extremly disappointed but also frustrated and shocked when in 2005 George W. Bush was reelected for president. Others may have written a very angry and aggressive song, but as Jon is 100 per cent optimist and positive, he wrote in an ironical and sarcastic way. He wanted to give the listener hope as well as belief, especially belief in oneself which can be seen in the first lines: 'Why you wanna tell me how to live my life? Who are you to tell me if it's black or white?' and in the chorus: 'I ain't gonna do what I don't want to, I'm gonna live my life' and 'I show the wind how to fly, when the world gets in my face I say: Have a nice day'.
Jon also tells us that not everything is good or even perfect right now, but that we have to hold on and fight because that's the only wy to change something. 'Take a look around you, nothing's what it seems, we're living in the broken home of hopes and dreams' underlines this as much as some of the last lines: 'When the world keeps trying to drag me down, I've gotta raise my hands, gonna stand my ground'.
The video for 'Have a nice day' is really a video for the fans. It shows the band in New York City and everywhere on the walls, cars, streets and even on some people is the 'Hand - smiley-logo'. It simply smiles from all around directly to the viewer and reminds us that life is fun.
