Interpretation - Everyday

The first single from Bon Jovi's album 'Bounce' released in 2002.Actually, the first meeting for writing for this new album should have been on September 11 in 2001, but after the terror attacs, they started some weeks later. Not just that they and the area they are living in were hardly affected by the attacs, but they also played countless events and shows to raise money for those who lost somebody and needed help.

So, it's not surprising that Bon Jovi's new music got influenced by everything outside of the band. Anyway, Jon always pointed out that not the whole album but only three songs are directly about 9/11. Besides 'Undivided' and the title track 'Bounce', 'Everyday' is one of them.

'Goodbye to all my yesterdays, goodbye, so long, I'm on my way' and 'Goodbye to all those rainy nights, goodbye, so long, I'm moving on' are lines that give people the strengh to look forward into the future and not to look back on the terrible things that happened in the past. The band wants the people to be strong again, to follow their dreams and aims and to live again what they express in the chorus: ' I've had enough of cryin', bleedin', sweatin', dyin', hear me when I say: gonna live my life everyday'.

Anyway, they don't try to put the events of 9/11 into the background. They really describe the situation in the whole second part: ' change, everybody's feeling strange never gonna be the same, makes you wonder how the world keeps turning'. It shows that it's not easy to live on because everything is different now, but also that they all feel the same and that nobody is alone with their sadness.

On top of this, the lyrics to this song show that the band was directly affected by he attacs and that the members were personally touched: 'Life, learning how to live my life, learning how to pick my fights, take my shots while I'm still buring'.

As always, of course, there's the typicl optimism in the songs. In 'Everyday' it may be a lot stronger and more obvious than in other songs, but that's Bon Jovi's way of dealing with difficult situations. 'In my life there's no denying' or 'There ain't nothing gonna get in my way' are that full of strengh, hope and optimism that everybody gets a little piece of it and can start to believe again.
